A center designed to enrich the lives of psittacines & raptors.

About Us

At the Avian Center for Enrichment, we recognize that all bird owners deeply love their birds. However, over time, unexpected or undesirable behaviors can emerge, leading to stress and challenges in the caregiving relationship. Given the long lifespans of many bird species and the complexities of their care, this can unfortunately result in birds being relinquished to new homes or rescues.

In addition to behavioral concerns, we often see that both the birds and their human caregivers face age-related or health-related challenges—physical and mental—that can strain their bond and compromise the quality of life for both.

The Avian Center for Enrichment is a dedicated training facility focused on advancing understanding of bird behavior. Our mission is to educate people so they can become more informed and compassionate caretakers.

We provide enrichment for birds in a learning environment, with the goal of preparing their human companions to care for them confidently at home. While we are deeply committed to avian welfare, we are not equipped to operate as a rescue or sanctuary, and we do not offer boarding services. Our focus remains on people education and bird enrichment.

Chan the Birdman Takes Flight in Los Angeles County,
Reshaping How the County Cares for Birds

Journalist, Michelle Edgar recently featured Chan Quach, widely known as “Chan the Birdman”, in a beautifully written article highlighting his vision and work through the Avian Center for Enrichment. Published in the Sunday edition of the Los Angeles Daily News on May 10, 2026, the article showcases Chan’s mission to transform the way Los Angeles understands, connects with, and cares for birds.

Edgar writes, “Chan Quach, widely known as ‘Chan the Birdman’, is redefining how Los Angeles understands and cares for birds.” Through a new partnership with Los Angeles County Parks & Recreations, Chan is expanding that mission across the region by launching public education programs focused on conservation, nutrition, behavior, and responsible bird ownership.

“You have to understand the bird first,” Chan explains. “Then build the relationship.” Rather than emphasizing control, Chan’s philosophy centers on trust - creating meaningful relationships that help birds remain in loving homes long-term, reducing the cycle of rescue and rehoming.

Looking ahead, Chan is focused on growing his impact throughout the community. His partnership with Los Angeles County Parks & Recreation will broaden public access to education surrounding avian care and conservation while his long-term vision includes establishing a Haven Center - a dedicated space for training, education, rehabilitation, and community engagement.

  • Seize the Sky: Free Flying Demonstration & Conversation with Chan
    Sponsored by Harrison’s Bird Foods

On Saturday, October 4, 2025, Chan Quach delivered a captivating presentation at the Gila River Resort & Casino in Phoenix, AZ, sponsored by Harrison’s Bird Foods. The event reached new heights—literally—as all seven of Chan’s macaws took flight just before sunset, soaring above the desert landscape and circling an awestruck audience of veterinarians and veterinary students.

The live demonstration powerfully reinforced Chan’s core message: the critical role of behavioral enrichment and environmental complexity in promoting avian well-being. His philosophy challenges conventional norms of parrot ownership, advocating for a holistic standard of care that gives equal weight to behavioral and physical health. By preventing chronic stress, stereotypies, and other behavioral disorders, this approach redefines what it means to responsibly care for companion birds.

Throughout the talk, attendees were able to follow along with a live slideshow on their phones as Chan emphasized three essential pillars of a happy, healthy bird: Nutrition, Discipline, and Enrichment.
